In Japan, schools start in April.
From April to July is the first term, which is called ichi-gakki.
In Japan, schools start in April. In April, every school has an entrance ceremony and body measurement/physical exam. In body measurement, height, weight, eyesight and hearing ability are checked.
In May, students have Ensoku (excursion). For Ensoku (excursion), students bring their lunch. Parents prepare this lunch for Ensoku.
And schools do home visits. The teacher visits his/her class students and checks their state of affairs and talks about students.
Swimming class starts in June. Some elementary schools don’t have swimming classes.
Natsuyasumi (summer vacation) starts at the end of July. Students don’t have any classes during vacation. Teachers give homework, so students do them during vacation.
From September to December is the second term, which is called ni-gakki.
In September, students have their first assembly of the term and body measurement.
In October, there is undoukai, a sports festival. Parents also go to see undoukai.
In November, Bunkasai, a school festival, is held. Some schools call it gakushu-happyoukai.
In December, students have a marathon race. Winter holidays start at the end of December.
After winter holidays, in January, students have their first assembly of the term.
From January to March is the third term, which is called 3-gakki.
In March, 6th grade students in elementary school have a graduation ceremony. Other students have end of term assembly and start spring holidays.
